Linse Capital, the deep tech venture capital firm behind growth-stage investments in companies like Skydio, Impulse Space, Verkada, and SpaceX, today announced its rebrand to Lithos Capital. The new name reflects the firm’s ongoing commitment to backing a small number of companies with large, concentrated checks, and staying with them for years.

Lithos is ancient Greek for stone. It’s the root of monolith and lithography. It was chosen to describe what it aims to be for founders: a partner that goes all in on the companies they believe in, staying with them through the ups and downs of building a company. Alongside its continued growth-stage investments, Lithos now participates in early-stage rounds across space, robotics, energy, mobility, defense, and AI. This gives founders a single partner that can support them from first check through scale.

“Since founding the firm in 2015, we’ve kept our heads down, backed a small number of companies with large, concentrated checks, and let the companies do the talking. We like working this way, and we think the founders we back like it too. But a name is one of the few things a firm says about itself, and, a decade in, we decided to choose a name that tells you something about who we are and what we think matters in this business,” says Michael Linse, Founder of Linse Capital.

Linse, a former Partner at Kleiner Perkins, co-leads the firm with his long-time investing partner Bastiaan Janmaat, previously CEO of DataFox. To date, the firm has raised over $1.7 billion and has backed nine growth-stage companies and fourteen early-stage companies.

“We’ve spent the past two decades investing in deep tech companies, long before the term ‘deep tech’ was even coined. Our largest investment started as a $4 million check, and over five years we put $330 million behind that company. Many deep tech companies that go all the way need that kind of capital and commitment,” says Janmaat. “This rebrand, from Linse to Lithos, marks a new era for our firm, and increasingly, that commitment starts at the very beginning of a company’s life.”

The rebrand follows the firm’s recent launch of Ignition, a $75 million early-stage fund, Linse Ignition, alongside a $75 million co-investment vehicle that extends Lithos’ concentrated approach to early-stage companies, working with founders from the early checks through scaling.
