Expo Brings Sustainability into Focus in Richmond This Saturday

Inaugural event brings the community together around sustainability, innovation and local solutions

RICHMOND, CA, UNITED STATES, September 22, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ — The inaugural Sustainable Richmond Expo 2026 comes to the Richmond City Council Chambers Saturday, September 26, creating a new forum for the community to learn about sustainability and connect with those putting it into practice. The free event offers students, educators, youth organizations, community and environmental groups a chance to hear directly from those doing the work and help shape future sustainability efforts in Richmond.

Among the confirmed exhibitors are MCE, Curious Explorers Academy, GRID Alternatives, Oasis Landscape Solutions, Walk & Roll, Power, Cooperation Richmond, Conscious Construction, JC Heating and Air Conditioning, and The Orus, LLC. All Things Good will highlight home efficiency and electrification, including electric heat pumps, while Richmond Pacific Railroad, an early adopter of ultra-low-emission locomotive technology, will highlight the role of freight rail in green technology and clean transportation.

The Expo is spearheaded by Commissioner Gloria Sewell-Murphy, Founding Chair/Lead of the Sustainability Subcommittee, whose extensive work in the arts includes serving as Founding Coordinator/Executive Director of the Oakland Arts Council and introducing the City’s first Comprehensive Cultural Planning and Development Concept Plan. That experience informs her approach to sustainability: both creative expression and innovation require the ability to imagine new possibilities and transform ideas into meaningful change.

“When people with different experiences and ideas come together, new possibilities emerge,” Sewell-Murphy said. “That is what we hope to encourage through the Expo. This is the beginning, and we want the community to help shape what Sustainable Richmond can become and how it can continue to evolve.”

Sustainability Pioneers will be honored at the event, and Sewell-Murphy will exhibit a display highlighting the sustainable products and services of industrial hemp and other innovations on the horizon.

City and County officials will be in attendance, including former Mayor Gayle McLaughlin, Richmond Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Vernon Whitmore and Chair Rich Doellstedt. YEE TV youth reporters will engage with participants and report from the Expo, which will stream on YouTube at @CreationsBerkeleyStudio.
