As courts sanction lawyers for AI-fabricated citations, a new platform verifies briefs against 10 million real U.S. opinions — with no subscription and no login
PALM BEACH GARDENS, FL, UNITED STATES, September 18, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ — LawDiver today launched a free legal research platform that lets anyone search more than 10 million U.S. federal and state court opinions and verify the citations in a legal brief against them — capabilities that have historically required a paid Westlaw or Lexis subscription.
The platform is live now at lawdiver.com.
Caselaw search is free and requires no account. CiteDiver, the platform’s citation-checking tool, is free during the initial rollout with a free account.
LawDiver arrives as courts across the country impose sanctions on filings containing citations to cases that do not exist — a failure mode of general-purpose AI assistants that lawyers increasingly use for drafting. LawDiver’s approach is that citation checking is a database problem, not a language problem.
What LawDiver does
Caselaw search — free, no login.
More than 10 million opinions from the U.S. Supreme Court, the federal courts of appeals and district courts, and the appellate and supreme courts of all fifty states. Full opinion text, official PDFs, and AI-generated case summaries.
CiteDiver cite checking.
Upload a PDF or Word brief and receive a report on every citation: whether the authority exists, whether the case name matches the reporter citation, whether the quoted language appears where it is cited, corrected Bluebook form, and an audit trail of what was checked before filing.
GoodLaw status.
Every case carries a treatment signal — overruled, questioned, distinguished, limited — with the basis for the determination. Cases not yet evaluated are flagged as unknown, published separately from negative, so “not yet checked” can never be mistaken for “cleared.”
Five search modes.
Citation lookup, case-name matching, boolean keyword search with proximity connectors, semantic vector search, and weighted fusion across all four — selectable and comparable side by side, or routed automatically from the query.
A developer API and MCP server.
The same search, retrieval, and cite-check endpoints are available to legal applications over REST and the Model Context Protocol, free during rollout, with no data license required for those workflows.
Built on a verified corpus, not a snapshot
LawDiver’s corpus spans 340 GB and includes 81 million resolved opinion-to-opinion citation edges and 183 million citations extracted from opinion prose with page-level offsets and pin cites. Opinions are harvested continuously from court websites, public feeds, and government publications, rather than refreshed from quarterly bulk exports.
Alongside general caselaw, LawDiver indexes specialty authorities including U.S. Tax Court and IRS guidance, Board of Immigration Appeals precedent, NLRB and SEC adjudications, and PTAB and TTAB decisions.
LawDiver is available today at lawdiver.com.
